Definition: words are classified according to the work they do in a sentence

Parts of Speech                         Meaning

Noun   -                                  Naming a word

(a word used as the name of the person, place, thing, ideas of feelings)

Ex: Chennai is big city.

Pronoun                                  Substitute for Noun

(It is a word instead of noun)

A book is read by me.

Adjective                                Describe a Noun

(A word which describes, qualifies or modifies a noun)

I love beautiful flowers.

Verb                                     Action State of word

(A word which tells us what a noun is or does)

He is a boy

Adverb                                              Describe a Verb

(A word which describes, qualifies or modifies a verb)

Ex: He runs Fast

Proposition                            Relationship Word

(A word which tells us the relationship between person(s) and Thing(s))

Ex: The book is on the table.

Conjunction                          Connecting Word

(A word which connects two words are two sentences)

Ex: I had bread and butter.

Interjection                           Exclamatory word (Yeah! Hurrah! O my god!, wow!, Ooh!)
